Venus
A fun drink which ends up kind of similar to a Saturn despite the pretty different ingredients. I think the dry vermouth, Aperol, and just barely funky Ten to One rum end up filling a similar space to the gin. Try using orgeat instead of the demerara syrup and see what happens, I'm going to soon.
I make this as a stirred drink, because I make it for myself at home late at night, but it feels like an up drink to me if I was paying for it. try it up and shaken with ice and see what you like.
A friend also made it using 1/2 oz Wray and Nephew White Overproof for part of the Ten to One, served up, and gives his seal of approval. Definitely give that a try.
Ingredients
Ingredient | Amount | Notes |
---|---|---|
Demerara Syrup 2:1 | 1⁄4 Fl. Oz. | |
Passion Fruit Syrup | 1⁄4 Fl. Oz. | |
Lime Juice | 1⁄2 Fl. Oz. | A fat 1/2 oz, so a bit above the line in a jigger, or do a skinny 3/4 oz to your taste |
Dry Vermouth | 3⁄4 Fl. Oz. | Noilly Pratt Extra Dry |
Aperol | 1⁄2 Fl. Oz. | |
Lightly Aged / Filtered Rum | 3⁄4 Fl. Oz. | Ten to One Caribbean White - a 90 proof blend of unaged Dominican Republic and unaged Jamaican rums. |
Moderately Aged Rum | 1 Fl. Oz. | Appleton Estate Signature. I'm sure many rums would be good here. Play around and find what you like. |
Directions
- Add all ingredients to glass with ice cubes from a tray
- Hard stir to get good dilution without needing to break out and clean the shaker
- Garnish with whatever you want - a Saturn uses an edible flower and orange twist. I used nothing. Go wild.
