Punky Monkey (Kerala)
Created at Death and Co. to use the awesome Scarlett Ibis, an amazing Trinidad rum which they have blended specifically for themselves (and sold elsewhere, I buy it far too often). Apparently this is the name the creator wanted, but it went on the menu at Death and Co. as "Kerala" according to Jeff "Beachbum" Berry.
While I'm sure it's not quite the same, for my first time making this I just added a bit of cardamom powder to the shaker. It generally looks like a solid recipe even without any cardamom. Maybe some day I'll try to find some cardamom pods to do it right.
Ingredients
Ingredient | Amount | Notes |
---|---|---|
Green Cardamom Pods | 5 | |
Simple Syrup 1:1 | 1⁄2 Fl. Oz. | |
Lemon Juice | 1⁄2 Fl. Oz. | |
Pineapple Juice | 1⁄2 Fl. Oz. | |
Moderately Aged Rum | 1 Fl. Oz. | Scarlett Ibis |
Bourbon | 1 Fl. Oz. | 90-proof. Preferably Buffalo Trace. |
Angostura Bitters | 1 dash | |
Peychaud's Bitters | 1 dash |
Directions
- Muddle cardamom pods (in the shaker, I think, maybe on their own. The original instructions are not clear to me)
- Add all other ingredients to shaker and shake with ice cubes
- Strain through fine mesh sieve (to catch the cardamom, I'm sure) into champagne coupe... or whatever glass, I'm not picky. I don't even know what a champagne coupe is unless it's the same thing usually just called a coupe.
