The general idea is that this is an evolution of what Ernest Hemingway used to order a La Floridita. He is rumored to have ordered a daiquir with twice the alcohol and half the sugar with that explained by him being a diabetic and alcoholic. Whatever. We'll never really know.

Ordering it exactly as specified is barely drinkable according to most sources, including liquor.com which is (probably) my source for the recipe. At this point I have seen it so many times and have been reading about cocktails for so long that it's hard to say what is truly my source - a random reddit post, cocktail virgin, any number of other various cocktail websites from diffords guide to kindred cocktails.

At any rate, as described, the original is really bad but bartenders tried to make it good. The end result is what is now the official Hemingway Daiquiri.
